About the Humanity Project
Over their lifetime, most people spend more of their time at work than any where else. If we want to improve the wellbeing of people in Aotearoa, then we need to create healthier workplaces.
The Humanity Project has two big goals.
To improve the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders by creating better places to work.
To provide practical support to organisations, to build a workforce that reflects humanity at its best. Human nature at its best -leaders, teams and individuals who are, collaborative, supportive, compassionate, kind, innovative, resilient, creative, courageous, and real.
Sarah’s combination of health, wellbeing, psychology and HR Management qualifications make her an ideal leadership coach for people wanting to perform at their best while juggling the demands of life. However, her real passion lies in enabling organisations to take a strategic, systems and sustainable approach to wellbeing in the workplace.
In New Zealand there is no formal qualification to become a workplace wellbeing specialist, so Sarah made it her mission to be informed and qualified to consult to organisations regarding workplace wellbeing by combining a number of qualifications, including a Bachelor of Science, a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Science and a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology. Sarah's master’s thesis looked at how we can build more compassionate workplaces through more compassionate leaders. See her full list of qualifications below.
Sarah is also a qualified personal trainer and yoga teacher and a tertiary qualified and experienced HR Manager. However she has spent much of the last decade working in, or with Health and Safety teams. Much of her roles have focused on putting the health back in to health and safety and equipping traditional health and safety teams with contemporary workplace wellbeing knowledge and resources. Having studied epidemiology and biostatistics and worked as an occupational health analyst, Sarah can help organisations make data driven decisions. As a former HR Manager of a Law firm, she also understands business drivers. Sarah has done lots of work in measuring wellbeing on the workplace and equipping leaders with skills to lead in a VUCA world.
Sarah has coached leaders within the public and private sectors. They have found her knowledge of resilience, team dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and building psychologically safe workplaces incredibly valuable. She studied coaching first as a personal trainer, weight loss and health coach, and then as an HR Manager coaching for performance in the workplace. She trained as a positive psychology coach for her master’s degree and has recently completed additional training in strengths coaching and coaching psychology.
As well as coaching leaders one-on-one, Sarah regularly runs workshops and speaks in public forums and at conferences on topics to do with building a culture of wellbeing, leading a mentally healthly team, work-life balance, getting enough sleep in a 24/7 world, building resilience in teams, managing stress, healthy aging, and how to live an extraordinary life.
As a workplace wellbeing specialist, she has worked with a multitude of respected organisations across Aotearoa New Zealand, including the ASB Bank, Air New Zealand, Fonterra, the New Zealand Fire Service, Sanitarium, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Development. Sarah has worked as the Principal Health and Wellbeing Advisor for the Department of Corrections and as the Principal Wellbeing Advisor to CCDHB during the pandemic lockdown. Most recently she has been consulting to ACC while they rebuilt their health, safety and wellbeing function.
